women and/of difference

I have been trying to follow-up the debates happening in the feminist network in kerala. Though I am unable to participate completely, it helped me to rethink or understand some of my taken-for-granted assumptions. It is true that even after so much debating about the danger of universalizing the category 'women', we often fall into the trap of univerzalizing it. experience of gender and the articulation of it is different for individuals coming from different locations/ identitities. but even those locations are futher categorized and gender is not above of any of these locations. i often wonder what is my location in this complex situation. i often find my caste status has given various undeserved privileges to me (yes, many including the fact that i am able to write to you about this). With my political consciousness, I often tried to wipe away the caste identity on me. but that was not possible. its is already there. the ghost of uppercasteness will be there and will shower the bundle of privileges on me wherever i go. may be writing about my experience as 'growing up as an upper caste with undeserved privileges' will help me to articulate my political positions and the challenges ahead of me clearly. I will write about it....

The Moral Avatar of CPI (M)&Co!

Now CPI(M) and its mouth piece Deshabhimani have come out with another disgusting strategy. After all failed attempts to divert people's attention from the ongoing struggle of landless adivasis in Chengara for their right to live with dignity, Deshabhimani and the party channel Kairali People came out with new moral agenda, accusing activists for their "immoral" dealings!

Disgusting yellow journalism!
